Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), entered an agreement for two A320-200 aircraft with from Seraph Aviation Group, an Irish aviation asset management company on June 21, 2021.

According to the details, the competition was tough in the latest bid evaluation where over 130 aircrafts were put up for offer with PIA requiring eight narrowbodies. The aircraft are expected to be delivered to the Pakistani airline in July and August 2021.

“We are delighted to have secured a contract for two A320-200s with Pakistan International Airlines. This follows a process in which we faced strong competition, but where the combination of technical ability and financial modelling achieved the highest marks,” David Butler, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Seraph Aviation Group was quoted in the statement.

“We look forward to delivering both aircraft in the coming months and to commencing a long and positive relationship with Pakistan International Airlines,” he added.

PIA CEO congratulated Seraph Aviation Group for winning the tender and said that he is looking forward to a fruitful long-term partnership between the two companies.

“PIA has an aggressive growth-based strategy in which the renewal and expansion of the fleet are central, along with consolidation on productive routes and expansion on new routes,” said CEO PIA, Air Marshal Arshad Malik.

On June 8, 2021, PIA revealed its plan to gradually update its aging aircraft fleet by adding on a non-specified number of narrow-body planes.

As for June 2021, the air carrier operates 3 ATR 42s, a single ATR 72 turboprop as well as 11 Airbus A320-200 narrow-bodies, the planespotters.com data shows. Moreover, the national flag carrier operates 8 Boeing 777-200s and 4 Boeing 777-300ER jets.
