According to a Baaghi TV report, Prime Minister Imran Khan, while demanding a detailed report on solving the problems of and promoting the gemstone industry, said that nature has blessed Pakistan with endless reserves. The development of the gemstones sector will not only provide employment for the youth, it will also help to boost exports.

He was presiding a meeting to discuss the utilisation of the various reserves of natural gemstones in Pakistan. Present in the meeting were Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Ali Amin Gandapur, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Coordination of Marketing & Development of Mineral Resources, Shahzad Syed Qasim, French Expert Barnaby Plowright, CEO Rupani Foundation Wasim Samad, and various experts associated with the gemstone industry.

In the meeting, the country’s confirmed reserves of valuable gems (emeralds, amethysts, rubies and sapphires), research and development in the field, foreign investment in gems, exports and in relation to that coordination between the federal and provincial governments, and various related points were discussed. Fully utilising the country’s resources, removing the obstacles in the way of boosting exports through this sector, and various other issues were discussed in detail.

The Prime Minister said that a detailed report should be presented regarding the problems in the industry and the promotion of the sector so that a complete and detailed roadmap can be formulated to the effect.

While supporting the recommendation to establish a Gemstone City to provide a One-Window solution for foreign investment and promotion of exports, in the environs of the federal capital, he said it should further considered and a strategy formulated for its implementation.
