July 16, 2021: Prime Minsiter Imran Khan addressed a news conference during his visit to Uzbekistan.

He highlighted the importance of the resolution of the Kashmir issue to open contacts in the entire region. Pakistan is saddened by the allegations some countries have made about Pakistan promoting unrest in the region.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that economic activities at Gwadar port started from March 2019. Addressing a conference in Tashkent, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that CPEC is the flagship project of BRI, for which peace and security of the region is the most important requirement.

He said Pakistan has made thousands of sacrifices in the war against terrorism over the years. He reminded the world that it was only Pakistan’s efforts that brought the Afghan Taliban to the negotiating table in the Afghan peace process. Pakistan has said from day one that the solution to the Afghan problem is not military solution. He said Pakistan has made serious efforts for the Afghan peace process.

PM Imran said that the Kashmir issue is the biggest issue between Pakistan and India. Resolution of Kashmir issue will open contacts in the entire region. It is feared that instability in Afghanistan will lead to a new wave of refugees. Peace in Afghanistan is in the interest of all neighboring countries. The United States has been trying to find a military solution in Afghanistan but that was not possible.

PM Imran Khan says it is unfair to blame Pakistan for instability in Afghanistan specially since Pakistan has sacrificed 70,000 people in last 15 years during the war on terror.

He highighted the importance of peace in Afghanistan saying it is a bridge between Central and South Asian countries. He said peace in Afghanistan is essential for peace in the region and expressed concerns that any insurgency in Afghanistan will lead to a flood of Afghan refugees which is a huge social and economic concern.

When Prime Minister Imran Khan arrived at the International Congress Hall to attend the Central and South Asian Conference, he was received by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
