PM Imran Khan Speaks Up regarding Pandora Papers Leak

Welcoming the shocking ‘Pandora Papers’ around the world, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has announced that the government will investigate all the Pakistanis appearing in the Pandora Papers and take action against them.

In a statement issued on Twitter, PM Imran Khan said that he welcomes the investigation into Pandora’s papers. The elites created illicit wealth through tax evasion and corruption and transferred illicit money to financially safe havens.

The Prime Minister said that according to UN SG’s Panel FACTI, about ً $7 trillion has been kept in safe havens in which the illicit wealth of the elite has been exposed in the Pandora papers transferred mostly by offshore companies.

“My over-two decades struggle has been premised on the belief that countries are not poor but corruption causes poverty because money is diverted from being invested in our people. Also, this resource-theft causes devaluation, leading to thousands of poverty-related deaths,” the tweet read.

In a tweet, PM Khan wrote that the East India Company (EIC) had ‘plundered’ the wealth of India. Such ruling class looted the wealth of their countries.

“Unfortunately, the rich states are neither interested in preventing this large-scale plunder nor in repatriating this looted money,” the Pakistani Prime Minister said.

“If unchecked, inequalities between rich & poor states will increase as poverty rises in the latter. This in turn will lead to a flood of economic migration from the poor to the rich states, causing further economic & social instability across the globe,” he added.

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) has once again released the names of companies and owners set up to evade taxes.

According to the ICIJ, the financial investigation was completed in two years, with 600 journalists from 150 media outlets in 117 countries investigating. The Pandora Papers contains the names of more than 700 Pakistanis and contains 11 million files.

The investigation into the financial affairs was completed in two years and the details of the investigation will come out in a few hours. The Pandora Papers include more Pakistani names than the Panama Papers. Keep in mind that if an offshore company has been declared in accordance with the law and that company is not used for any illegal work, then forming an offshore company is not an illegal act in itself.
