PM Imran Khan visits ISI secretariat, appreciate's efforts for National Security

Dec 26, 2021: Prime Minister Imran Khan has convened the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting on Monday to discuss matters related to national security and the situation in Afghanistan.

The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan and will be attended by senior ministers including Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid, National Security Adviser Moeed Yousaf and senior military leadership.

Participants will be briefed on the current security situation in the country and developments in Afghanistan. The meeting was convened less than a week after Pakistan hosted an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.

The OIC meeting was held on December 18 in Islamabad. The meeting was attended by ambassadors from 57 Islamic countries, as well as a delegation of observers, during which it was decided to set up a Humanitarian Trust Fund and a food security program to address the growing crisis.

Pakistan had warned of “the biggest man-made crisis” in Afghanistan if it did not help the war-torn country and stressed the need for immediate assistance to the people.

Earlier this month, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry expressed regret over the opposition’s decision to boycott a meeting of the parliamentary committee on national security.

Stressing the importance of the meeting, Chaudhry said, “It is the first time in seven decades that a government is presenting its policy on national security in the Parliament.” The minister said the meeting was about National security and hence should transcend political differences.
