Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has congratulated the people of Pakistan for exercising their right to vote, which shows their commitment for the cause of democracy.

Speaking at a news conference in Islamabad this afternoon, he also commended all the law enforcement agencies for their role in ensuring peaceful conduct of elections.

He hoped that the elected government will soon assume its responsibilities through a peaceful transition of power.

The Prime Minister expressed the confidence that the upcoming elected government will focus on the immediate challenges of economy and security.

He also urged the upcoming elected government to focus on political healing and legislation through consensus for a functioning democratic system in the country.

Responding to a question, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar rejected any deliberate delay in the election results and said that polls tabulation was completed within 36 hours, while that process took 66 hours in the last general elections.

He said elections were held free and fair, despite some irregularities and relevant forums are available to take up these matters.

The Prime Minister said there were around 92,000 polling stations in the length and breadth of the country.

He said after the conclusion of the vote casting, the process of counting started, which too took time.

He said delay in election results should not be transpired as rigging. He said it is unfortunately, that an opinion is made on the basis of fractured information circulating on social media.

Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said the biggest military deployment was made in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the election process, where PTI-backed independent countries emerged as victorious in large numbers.

He said it also shows that level playing field was provided to all the candidates.

Answering a question, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said we respect the democratic right for holding peaceful protests but nobody can be allowed to resort to violence and create anarchy in the name of such gatherings.
