PM lauds law enforcement agencies for ensuring peaceful elections

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has congratulated the people of Pakistan for exercising their right to vote, which shows their commitment for the cause of democracy. Speaking at a news conference in Islamabad this afternoon, he also commended all the law enforcement agencies for their role in ensuring peaceful conduct of elections. He hoped that the elected government will soon assume its responsibilities through a peaceful transition of power. The Prime Minister expressed the confidence that the upcoming elected government will focus on the immediate challenges of economy and security. He also urged the upcoming elected government to focus on political healing and legislation through consensus for a functioning democratic system in the country. Responding to a question, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar rejected any deliberate delay in the election results and said that polls tabulation was completed within 36 hours, while that process took 66 hours in the last general elections. He said elections were held free and fair, despite some irregularities and relevant forums are available to take up these matters.
