ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) has ridiculed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for implicating party president Shahbaz Sharif in a seven-year-old corruption case worth Rs 4.5 million.

Reports state that the party stated that the case cannot be opened unless and until the Chairman NAB himself is also involved.

Submitting a reply at the NAB Rawalpindi office, PML-N Information Secretary Maryam Aurangzeb alleged that NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, with the connivance of Prime Minister Imran Khan and his advisor Shehzad Akbar, had visited Rawalpindi-Islamabad. Notices were sent to Shahbaz Sharif in a “fabricated” case, awarding him a contract of having some uplifting work done on the Metro bus service route.

In the response sent to NAB regarding this “fabricated” case, Maryam Aurungzeb asked the bureau to provide complete records and data for the 7-year-old case when Shahbaz Sharif was the Chief Minister of Punjab.

When questioned why the PML-N president himself did not appear before NAB in person, Maryam Aurangzeb said there was no need for him to show himself for a “fake case”.

Maryam Aurangzeb, who accompanied the party’s deputy secretary-general Ataullah Tarar to the NAB office, alleged that the NAB officials made her wait for about an hour because she was unprepared for the situation.

She alleged that the NAB officials received the letter from Prime Minister Imran Khan and Shehzad Akbar only after fresh instructions and approval.

Criticizing the government, she termed the Metro bus route uplifting contract case as part of a “very clear political revenge” campaign against Shahbaz Sharif and the PML-N leadership, stating that not a single penny used was corrupt.

She said, that the case, which started with allegations of corruption of Rs. 90 billion, has come to a stand with a contract of Rs. 4.5 million for adding more flowers and plants on the Metro bus route.
