LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker and senior Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Sunday said that it has been agreed among PML-Q members that the current assembly will complete their term.

During an informal conversation with journalists in Lahore, Elahi said that the Constitution and law are very clear on the matter of no-confidence motion, therefore, the speaker of the National Assembly (NA) should follow them.

He added that the allies of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government, PML-Q, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-P (MQM-P) and the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) are working together.

No-confidence motion: PML-Q assures firm support to PM

“If we join hands with the Opposition, we will resign from the ministries,” said Pervaiz Elahi.

He added that he had a meeting with a member of the Jahangir Tareen group Awn Chaudhry as well, adding that he will “soon make an announcement who to support.”

He further said a meeting with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif will take place soon, however, the prime minister will keep making efforts.

Earlier, the PML-Q had held a consultative meeting regarding the no-confidence motion during which the party discussed the relations with the current government and the Opposition. The meeting also shed light on the consultations it had held with the government allies.

Sources also said that PML-Q decided to continue the consultations tomorrow as well.

Earlier PML-N and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) agreed to nominate Elahi as Punjab chief minister in exchange for their party’s support for the no-confidence motion to oust Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.

Sources within the Opposition parties said that the announcement regarding this decision will be made within the next 24 hours.

They said that PML-Q, which is a key ally of the PM Imran Khan-led government, was informed about the development by a senior leader of PPP.
