LAHORE – To ensure continuous improvement in the healthcare service delivery and implementation of the minimum service delivery standards (MSDS), it has been proposed that special units should be created in the public-sector teaching hospitals.
This was discussed in a meeting held at the Punjab Healthcare Commission office here on Tuesday, which was presided over by Chairperson Board of Commissioners PHC Prof Dr Attiya Mubarak Khalid, while the introductory remarks to the proceedings were given by Chief Executive Officer PHC Dr Muhammad Saqib Aziz. The meeting was attended by Vice-Chancellor King Edward Medical University Prof Khalid Masud Gondal, VC Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof Aamir Zaman Khan, Managing Director Children’s Hospital Prof Muhammad Saleem, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College Prof Arif Tajummal, PHC Directors, teachers of medical education, administrators of different hospitals and others concerned.
It was also proposed in the meeting that a new module, based on the MSDS and their implementation, be introduced in the training of the post-graduates of the teaching hospitals. Heads of the medical institutes and hospitals vowed to implement MSDS for further improvement in the healthcare service delivery. They also deliberated various issues of patient safety, neglected standard operating procedures, quality healthcare, and promotion of the culture of quality in hospitals. They underlined the need for awareness and advocacy regarding the MSDS and their continuous implementation, adverse event reporting mechanism and complaint management.
On this occasion, a detailed briefing was given about the mandate and achievements of the PHC. It was also mentioned that the Commission had developed MSDS for almost all kinds of healthcare establishments, and had imparted training on the Standards to health professionals and managers as part of a comprehensive training programme.
