PSL 2020: Zalmi Defeated Gladiators by Six Wickets

KARACHI: Peshawar Zalmi defeated Quetta Gladiators by six wickets in the fourth match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 on Saturday (today) at the National Stadium Karachi.

Kamran Akmal played one of his best innings against the Gladiators and thus became the first player to score a century in the fifth edition of the tournament. This was the third century by the wicket-keeper batsmen in the history of PSL.

Quetta’s Innings

Quetta’s Jason Roy and Shane Watson started the innings quite smoothly after Quetta suffered its first loss on 33 runs when Watson was sent to the pavilion by Wahab Riaz.

Ahmed Shehzad, who came in third, scored 12 runs off 12 balls.

After losing two wickets for 50 runs in eight overs, captain Sarfraz Ahmed supported Jason Roy and both scored 62 runs in the fourth wicket partnership. Quetta lost their fourth wicket on 112, as Sarfraz was dismissed on 41 off 25 balls.

After Sarfraz was dismissed, Jason Roy remained firm on the wicket but failed to put up big shots in the last over, while Azam Khan and Mohammad Nawaz also failed to stay on the crease. Both of them got bowled out on 5 and 2 runs respectively.

Jason Roy carried the bat for Quetta and top scored with 73 runs but his 57-ball knock was a bit on the slower side while Wahab Riaz of Peshawar Zalmi took 2 wickets in his four overs.

Peshawar’s Innings

While chasing the total, Peshawar Zalmi made a careful start and the openers pushed the score to 44, when Tom Benton was dismissed for only 3 runs.

Kamran Akmal continued the aggressive game and made a partnership with Haider Ali to take the scorecard to 126. Haider Ali scored 25 runs and got bowled out by Sohail Khan.

Shoaib Malik also returned to the pavilion after scoring 7 runs. Kamran Akmal scored the first century of the PSL 2020. He scored 101 off 55 balls with four sixes and 15 fours. After that, Livingstone and Liam Dawson did no further damage and easily completed the run chase.

From Quetta, Fawad Ahmed of Quetta Gladiators took two wickets, while Sohail Khan and Tymal Mills bagged one wicket each.

Kamran Akmal was declared the best player of the match on his brilliant century.
