Dec 17, 2021: A case related to smog, environmental pollution and water resources was heard in the Lahore High Court.
The Punjab government has promised to close schools from December 23 to the first week of January. The Lahore High Court has ordered to submit notification of holidays at the next hearing. Informing the High Court about the government’s decision to close schools across Punjab, Justice Shahid Karim remarked that it was okay for the government to issue a notification as it would reduce traffic and reduce smog.
Earlier, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood had announced in his first tweet that there would be holidays in educational institutions across the country from December 25, for which the provincial governments had also agreed to the decision. After the announcement that the holidays will indeed be on 25th December, however, today after the order of the High Court, the situation seems to be changing and it is possible that the vacations will not start on the 25th but on the 20th as per original plan.
Earlier in the day, the Lahore High Court (LHC) had heard a petition regarding the legal status of cryptocurrency. He directed the officers of the concerned departments to sit down and hold a meeting on the matter.
