LAHORE: The Government of Punjab has decided to close shops at 6 pm to curb the spread of coronavirus and due to non-compliance of SOPs.

According to the sources, this decision was made in light of frequent violations of the government-defined SOPs by businesses. The Punjab government has decided to close the shops from 6 pm.

The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has opposed the government’s decision to close shops at 6 pm. LCCI President Mian Tariq Misbah said that the decision to close shops at 6 pm would increase the rush in the markets, time should not be reduced, traders would follow 100% of coronavirus SOPs.

It may be recalled that the Punjab government has finalized a strategy to prevent coronavirus, under which half of government employees will deal with government affairs from their homes.

Sources said that according to the Punjab government’s survey, coronavirus prevalence rate is higher in some cities Lahore, Pindi, Faisalabad and Multan while the industry minister has been given the task to implement coronavirus SOPs in the markets.

According to sources, the industry minister will meet traders from tomorrow to implement the SOPs, while special teams from the industry department will conduct special inspections of the markets. Sources said that the Punjab government has also decided to effectively ban political activities in the province.

It is pertinent to mention here that another 34 people have died from the coronavirus in the country, while another 2,756 cases have been confirmed. According to the official portal, the number of deaths due to coronavirus cases in Pakistan has reached 7,696 while the total number of cases has reached 3,76,929.
