Punjab govt to set minimum age of girls 18 for marriage

A resolution demanded to set the age of marriage for girls at 18 years was submitted to the Punjab Assembly.

A resolution submitted by women members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said that early marriages deprive girls of basic education which is an obstacle to an educated, healthy and prosperous family.

The resolution was jointly submitted by PTI members Sadia Sohail, Sameera Bukhari and Khadija Omar.

According to the resolution, Quaid-e-Azam has also declared child marriage as a social evil.The resolution called for a fundamental amendment to the law regarding underage marriages and to increase the age of marriage for girls from 16 to 18 years.
