Punjab schools to revert to regular schedule from Oct 11

Oct 8, 2021: All public and private schools in Punjab will re-open as per normal schedule from October 11 onwards as per announcement from Murad Raas, Punjab education minister.

In his tweet, the minister said, “No more staggered approach. Welcome back to the previous routine,”

Meanwhile, Raas stressed the importance of abiding to the SOPs mandated by the government to stop the spread of the corona virus.

This announcement comes as Pakistan’s COVID-19 cases decline significantly with the country recording a daily case count below 1,000 since July 6 with 830 cases being recorded in the past 24 hours.

Pakistan on Friday recorded a massive decline in new COVID-19 cases as less than 1,000 daily infections were reported in the last 24 hours, according to the government data.

The positivity rate, too, dipped below 2% for the first time since June 29, which is more than three months ago. The current positivity rate is 1.99%. The decreasing trend of infections with 1,456 new infections reported on average each day means they are now 25% of the peak, the highest daily average reported on June 17.

The announcement by Punjab’s education minister was made by the provincial education minister after NCOC permitted the educational institutes to resume normal school schedule from Monday amid a decline in the virus cases.

The NCOC took the decision after a review of the pandemic situation in a meeting held on Thursday.

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Omar said in a tweet that the forum had agreed to reopen schools on the basis of low levels of disease transmission and the launch of a school vaccination program.

Schools had so far been operating at 50 per cent capacity across the country after being intermittently closed due to the spread of Covid 19.
