Wrath among guests during Pakistani TV channels’ talk shows is nothing new, but a word-of-mouth battle between play-writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar and human rights activist Marvi Sarmad is causing debate on social media.
Recently, on a live TV show, Khalil Ur Rehman lost his cool for no apparent reason and started misbehaving with Pakistani journalist, Marvi Sarmad. The incident occurred on a local news program in which arguments were being made in favor and opposition to the march. In many cities of the country, on March 8, women will hold a rally called ‘Woman March’.
Many users on social media have condemned such behavior by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s use of hate speech for Marvi Sarmad, while some have criticized the channel’s administration and anchorperson for ‘doing nothing’.
Marvi Sarmad triggered the extremely short-tempered writer with a slogan of the upcoming Aurat March he had previously taken issue with: ‘Mera Jisam meri Marzi.’ The slogan angered Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, and in a harsh tone, he told her to remain silent and speak on her turn.
Moreover, hashtags of #MeraJismMeriMarzi and #khalilurrehmanqamar is trending top on Twitter.
Famous showbiz celebrities were rightly shocked and dismayed at the turn of events.

“I am shocked at what I have just heard and seen!” wrote Mahira on Twitter. “Sick to the core. This same man who abused a woman on TV is revered and given project after project because of what?”
She, further, added, “We are as much to blame if not more for perpetuating this thinking!”

Senator Sherry Rehman has demanded apology from the TV show’s management and boycott Khalil ur Rehman Qamar.
I will not accept any show on @NeoTv_Network until this anchor apologises and this abusive man boycotted. If others ( men and women ) do the same when asked for shows this kind of disrespect to women may not get impunity. Women’s rights are human rights. Enough of this nonsense https://t.co/YAJlmawCXF

Just saw the obnoxious incident between Khalil Saab and Marvi Sirmad. I see people writing "You can't talk to a lady like that" and that's where the problem lies. It's not a matter of gender. You can't talk to ANYONE like that! Not even an animal. Khalil Saab is a disgrace 🤦🏻♂️🤮

All this while, the talk show host kept trying to shut Marvi up and not the abuse that was coming out of Qamar’s mouth. Wonder where PEMRA really is when incidents of actual violence against women are needed to be controlled.
