Sept 9, 2021: Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani will visit Pakistan on Thursday.

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi will hold talks with his Qatari counterpart, focusing on developments in Afghanistan and Pakistan-Qatar relations.

A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry said that Sheikh Al-Thani would also meet other dignitaries during his visit. “Pakistan and Qatar share deep, cordial relations in common beliefs and values. The two countries work closely on regional and global issues of common interest,” the statement added.

Qatar is home to more than 200,000 Pakistani migrants who contribute to the national development and economic growth of both countries. The visit of Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister “will enhance bilateral cooperation and strengthen coordination on regional and international issues.”

Last week, Prime Minister Imran Khan had a telephone conversation with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and discussed issues related to Afghanistan.

The Prime Minister stressed that after 40 years of conflict and instability, there is an opportunity for lasting peace in Afghanistan.

He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen its political and economic partnership with Qatar. Prime Minister Imran appreciated Pakistan’s assistance to Qatar during the Covid 19 pandemic, especially the care of Pakistani migrants working for the development and progress of both countries.

The two leaders agreed to stay in close touch on bilateral issues as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.
