SC allows action against Sugar mill owners

Tuesday, July 14th: The Supreme Court has allowed the government to take action against the owners of sugar mills, ending the relief they received from the Sindh High Court. 

The implementation case of Sugar Inquiry Commission report was heard in the Supreme Court. Justice Ejaz-ul-Haq said that there should be transparent work so that those involved could reach the level of punishment and the interest of the people in technical matters would not be left behind. Sugar Mills lawyer Makhdoom Ali Khan said that if the restraining order was lifted, the case would be affected in the High Courts. The Chief Justice asked how the government could be stopped from working.

It should be noted that a petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court to stay the proceedings on the investigation report of the Sugar Commission.

In June, the Salamabad High Court quashed the ongoing order on the application of Sugar Mills.

Government allowed to continue proceedings in the light of Sugar Inquiry Commission, Islamabad High Court disposed of Sugar Mills Association’s application, Islamabad High Court quashed restraining order in Chinese Inquiry Commission.

Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minallah delivered a brief verdict. The court said that such statements should not be made which would affect the right to a fair trial.
