Schools for transgender community to open soon, announces Murad Raas #Baaghi

Lahore, 6th July: Government plans to open schools for the transgender community in different parts of Punjab.

Punjab Education Minister for Murad Raas announced on Tuesday to open a school for transgenders in Multan.

While addressing a press conference today, he said that the government also plans to open more such educational institutes in other parts of the Punjab province.

Murad Raas announced the decision after meeting the representatives of the transgender community. He added, “It was an entire community that we have sidelined previously and had never thought that they would be getting education or jobs.”

On asking why can’t transgender be encouraged to attend regular school, Raas replied that if they go to normal schools, then children who do not understand their emotional side might hurt them by making fun of them.

However, with a gradual process, they will bring more transgenders towards regular schools, he said.

The provincial minister also informed that the government plans to open more schools for the community in other parts of the country and will also provide them with job opportunities.

It is pertinent to mention here that the parliament in Pakistan recognized the third gender community in 2018 and gave them fundamental rights including the ability to vote and choose their gender on official documents.

A census conducted in 2017 recorded 10,000 transgender in the country, although the trans rights groups say that the number could be more than 300,000 in Pakistan.
