Left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has admitted that he made the mistake of training with his fellow players in the ground during the corona virus pandemic. However, he is completely obeying the SOPs now.
Shaheen Afridi has donned the national colours for 8 Tests, 19 ODIs, and 12 T20s. As a constant member of all three teams, he has been allocated in the Category A of the Central Contract.
Shaheen Shah Afridi, who represents Lahore Qalandars in the PSL, answered the questions of the media via videolink. During the lockdown imposed due to the COVID19 pandemic, some players were observed training in the ground, including Shaheen Shah Afridi, Fakhar Zaman, Imran Khan Sr., Naseem Shah, after which the PCB took action and urged the players to strictly follow guidelines.
Shaheen said that the two months without cricket had seemed so never-ending that they took to the ground to practice but since then the PCB has given them instructions and they are strictly following the SOPs given to them. He said that under the SOPs they are now not training together but separately.
Shaheen said that conditions in England are always difficult and likewise will be this time as well but they are going early and will get time to acclimatise. The bowling squad isn’t entirely young and inexperienced. Wahab Riaz, Muhammad Abbas, Sohail Khan and Imran Khan Sr. are all part of the squad. Our bowling coach is also experienced and the bowling squad will perform well. He said the presence of Wahab Riaz, a senior and experienced bowler, will benefit them and give them opportunities to learn.
Shaheen Afridi said that while has always worked hard he never realised that he would become a member of all three teams in a relatively little amount of time. I remember I was able to bowl during the last game in England during the World Cup. As I go to England now, my aim is to put in a good performance in Test cricket. That is my focus. Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis made their name with their excellent performances in Test cricket.
Shaheen Afridi’s celebration style is also very well-known. He says that now we have to obey the rules made due to COVID 19 at every cost. We have played without the crowd in the PSL. Now the crowd can sit at home and enjoy the cricket on TV and I will continue using my celebration style.
