Let us tell you that this meeting has taken place at a time when there was speculation a few days ago that Sharad Pawar could be the presidential candidate. There are many other reasons for this meeting to make sense in the political circles. One, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are going to be held in Mumbai in a few days, while the assembly speaker elections are also going to be held in Maharashtra. In such a situation, this meeting gives strength to these political speculations. This meeting of PM Modi and Pawar would have shocked Shiv Sena and the Congress too.
Significantly, on Friday, ahead of the monsoon session beginning on July 19, Piyush Vedprakash Goyal had met former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress leader Anand Sharma and NCP leader Sharad Pawar, among other opposition leaders. Goyal’s meetings with senior opposition leaders ahead of the Parliament session are being seen as an attempt by the government to seek cooperation from opposition parties.
