Lahore, 16th September: Former Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s interim bail application was heard in the money laundering case in the Lahore High Court.

The court has extended the interim bail of Shahbaz Sharif till September 21. The court said that it had granted the request for adjournment several times before and could not give a longer date.

Shahbaz Sharif said that when he appeared before the NAB, he was told that the investigation was complete, so he had to come to Pakistan. He said that I am the leader of the opposition, I am a cancer patient, I have to go out for treatment.

He also said that NAB has made a case of assets in excess of income on the basis of malice, NAB cannot use the powers of the Anti-Money Laundering Act during the inquiry.

Earlier, the Lahore Accountability Court issued a written order for the last hearing of the money laundering reference. The court again issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Salman Shahbaz and Haroon Yousuf. 

The written order said that summon notices were sent to Nusrat Shahbaz and Rabia Imran. According to the report of the executor, both the women fled abroad. The court issued bailable arrest warrants for Nusrat Shahbaz and Rabia Imran and rdered to issue an arrest warrant in exchange for one lakh bonds.

In the money laundering case, Shahbaz Sharif is of the view that the NAB has made a case of assets in excess of income on the basis of malicious intent and the NAB has started an inquiry due to the political influence of the present government. The allegations made by the NAB in the inquiry are of a general nature.

The NAB is of the view that the Sharif family’s money laundering and anonymous companies were run from an office called ‘Pachpan K’.

According to the NAB, from 2008 to 2018, the assets of four members of the Shahbaz Sharif family increased by 450% while the assets of Salman Shahbaz alone increased by 900%.

 In 2009, the assets of Sharif family were 68 crores, 33 lakh 37 thousand while by 2018, the value of assets had reached 3 billion 68 crore 15 thousand rupees.

According to the documents, the total assets of Salman Shahbaz were worth Rs. 282.4 million in 2008, which has increased by 900%. Hamza Shahbaz’s assets increased by almost 100% in ten years.
