Lahore, 14th March: Pakistan’s renowned social activist and singer Shehzad Roy face criticism after he expressed his support to the students of a private university in Lahore.

Baaghi TV: Shehzad Roy shared a video of his song on social networking site Twitter yesterday and said that no one pays attention to beating a girl in public but hugging her with love has become a great crime here.

Following his tweet, fans on social media have sharply criticized Roy who has always raised his voice for social causes in the country.

Shehzad Roy shared a video on his Twitter on Saturday:

A user commented on Shehzad Roy’s tweet and asked, “Sir why I found you always on the wrong side? You are always wrong in these social matters. This doesn’t even happen here in Europe. Because uni is a place to study and learning not for proposing and hugging. If u like this kind of thing then follow West and be gay and happy.”

A Twitterati wrote, “Sir, you are wrong this time, because whenever a person raises his hand against a woman, the man is forbidden in the first place, and it is not wrong to love a woman, but all this should not be allowed in a university.”

It may be recalled that a few days ago, a girl had openly proposed to a boy at a private university in Lahore, the video of which went viral on social media and the administration expelled them from the university.

Earlier, Shaniera Akram, the social activist and wife of famous cricketer Wasim Akram, had come out in support of the university students where the girl was seen proposing to the boy.

Shaniera Akram took to her Twitter account and wrote, “We just celebrated International women’s day and here we are with a top University expelling a young woman for having the confidence and empowerment to ask a man to marry her amongst the security of her peers. What kind of example are we setting here.”

Akram also used the hashtag #CantExpelLove in her tweet.

She further expressed, “Apply all the rules you want but you can’t expel love! It’s in our hearts, it’s the best part about being young and it what makes life worth living! You learn more about love than you can ever learn at an institution.”
