Shoaib Akhtar “confident” PM Imran Khan and his cabinet supporting him on PTV controversy

Nov 10, 2021: Following the PTV’s decision to take legal action against former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar, the Rawalpindi Express said he would respond “appropriately” to state TV.
Speaking on Geo News program “Jashan Cricket”, Shoaib Akhtar claimed that when it comes to the row with Dr Noman Niaz, Prime Minister Imran Khan and his party is with him. “Everyone from the government to the showbiz people stand by me because they are angry about how a national figure was insulted during a live show,” he said.
Asked whether the state-run channel was making decisions independently or whether someone was supporting the campaign against Akhtar, the former bowler replied that he could “confidently” say that Prime Minister Imran Khan and his cabinet are with him.
Earlier, the state-run channel had sent a notice to Akhtar seeking Rs 103.3 million in damages for absenting from shows during the T20 World Cup and resigning from his post without completing the notice period. Akhtar added that his lawyers were reviewing the details of the case and would return to him because “they have challenged the wrong person.”
On Sunday, Akhtar announced that he was completely disappointed with PTV when the state broadcaster announced legal action against him.
Akhtar was told in the legal notice that he was liable to pay Rs 3.3 million to PTV in return for his three months salary as he resigned without completing the notice period. In addition, the state broadcaster demanded that Akhtar pay him Rs 100 million in damages.
A recovery notice is a legal document for recovery of money. It is a formal notification between two individuals or entities that warns the other before initiating legal action for their dues.
It may be recalled that Akhtar and PTV Sports host Dr Noman Niaz had a quarrel during a live show on October 26, after which Niaz bluntly the former cricketing legend to leave the show.
Akhtar, along with many of his fans and supporters, called the incident a disgrace because it was done in front of other guests, including Vivian Richards and David Gower.
Akhtar tried to settle the matter but when it did not work out, he not only walked out of the show but also announced his resignation from PTV.
Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had formed a committee headed by PTV’s managing director to investigate the matter. The committee recently submitted a preliminary report on the matter to the Minister.
