Son of Hurriyat chairman embraces martyrdom in Kashmir

Lahore, 19th May: Junaid Sehrai a brave Commander and a son of Tahreeki Hurriyat chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai received a dozen bullets on his chest and embraced martyrdom in Kashmir today.

Baaghi TV, Who was Junaid Sehrai? This is the first time in the military history of Kashmir that the son of a leader has joined a militant organization. Junaid Sehrai is one of the few militants who took this step after completing his higher education.

Hizbul Mujahideen commander Junaid Sehrai along with another comrade was martyred in a clash at Nawa Kadal in Srinagar.

In Srinagar’s Shahar Khas, on Tuesday morning, security forces cordoned off the Nawa Kadal area and launched a house-to-house search operation, which turned into a scuffle with the exchange of bullets. The blast, which lasted until noon, also destroyed some residential houses.

Junaid Sehrai had announced to join Hizb-ul-Mujahideen on March 24, 2018. Junaid went missing from Barzilla in March 2018, after his family reported him missing at a local police station, but a few days later, he took a gun in his hand and the photo went viral on social media.

Junaid Sehrai, a 26-year-old separatist leader who joined the militants in Kashmir after 2016, announced his joining the militant ranks by posting pictures of himself with a gun in his hand on social media. Ashraf Sehrai his father, is the chairman of the separatist movement Hurriyat and is considered a close associate of Syed Ali Gilani.

Junaid Sahrai had an MBA degree from the University of Kashmir and joined Hizb-ul-Mujahideen a year later. Following Junaid Sahrai’s joining the party, the then-police chief SP Wade had asked his father Ashraf Sehrai through the media to appeal to his son to give up militancy and return home, which Ashraf Sehrai rejected.

According to South Asian Wire, Junaid Sehrai is one of the few militants who took up the step after completing his higher education. Earlier, Manan Wani from the Lolab area of Kupwara district and Muhammad Rafi from Ganderbal district of central Kashmir had joined the militant ranks.

Manan Wani was doing his Ph.D. at Aligarh Muslim University while Muhammad Rafi was working as a Contractual Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Kashmir University. The two militants were martyred in two separate battles in recent years.
