SPARCO issue notice to PTV to pay $4.9 million dues or it will shut down PTV

In a recent development, PAKSAT International, under Pakistan’s space agency SPARCO, in a letter to Pakistan Television Corporation has demanded payment of $4.9 million by August 10.
According to the letter, PTV hires PAKSAT International for its TV channels and DSNG vans, with a monthly rent of US 132,150.
The letter stated that PTV have failed to make any payment for a long time, as a result of which the amount due by June 30 rose upto US 4.9 million.
It further added that PTV had repeatedly assured payment but the matter remained unresolved.
Earlier this month, the government on Tuesday deferred its decision to increase the monthly fee of Pakistan Television (PTV) licence for a week amid a nationwide outcry.
The state-run broadcaster currently charges a monthly fee of Rs35 from electricity consumers, which provides it with billions in annual funding. According to the reports, the government was planning to hike fee from Rs35 to Rs100.
