Inspector Abid Hussain aka Abid Boxer, formerly known as ‘Encounter Specialist’ of Punjab Police, has been elected as the Chairman of Boxing Association Lahore.

He said that just as he made a name for himself as an inspector in the Punjab Police, the country’s name will shine globally in the field of boxing.

Abid Boxer described the appointment as an honour for him and vowed to make the boxing industry invincible.

Abid was successful in getting admission in Lahore Government College University on the basis of boxer sports and thanks to this he also got many awards in boxing. Abid Boxer won a gold medal at the South Asian Games, a silver medal at the Junior World Cup and a five-time National Boxing Championship.

While training to win a gold medal in boxing, Abid was made a sub-inspector and was included in the operational team as part of the regular police force.

Notably, Abid ‘Boxer’, a fugitive on the run for 11 years and wanted for dozens of extrajudicial killings, has been arrested from Dubai through Interpol in 2018.

Known for the killing of several alleged criminals in fake police encounters, a euphemism for execution without trial, Abid ‘Boxer’ was a symbol of terror during the 1990s owing to his links with the underworld of organised crime.

Earning his nickname because he joined the police service on a sports quota, Abid had a reputation for his ruthless modus operandi and ‘effectiveness’ by operating above the law.
