Lahore, 25th July: The stranded cargo ship Heng Tong 77 will be finally rescued on the fifth day after it got stuck at Karachi’s Clifton Sea View last week.
According to details, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi announced on Sunday that the rescue teams have arrived to help move the stranded cargo ship Heng Tong 77 at Clifton Sea view.
Earlier, Karachi’s Port Trust (KPT) was unable to rescue the ship from shallow waters and hence, it refused to do so. Finally, on the fifth day, the ship will now be salvaged.

Ali Zaidi, who is suffering from COVID-19 and is quarantined, took to his Twitter account to share the information.
He wrote, “Am quarantined due to #COVID19 with high fever & other symptoms. But I’m not dead as yet. Therefore, have been monitoring all plans to rescue the stuck vessel. Firstly, request all to not waste time on the rubbish being floated on media & by some self-proclaimed shipping experts.”

In a series of tweets, Zaidi further explained, “We are a Port State & have to follow IMO Regulations. Captain of MT HENG TONG 77 has still not given an SOS call. Means: WE CANNOT LAUNCH A RESCUE OPERATION. His engines are running. The vessel is owned by a company based in UAE.”
• Vessel is registered in Panama which is also a Port State.
• As per IMO regulations, responsibility & cost of rescuing the vessel falls directly on the owner.
• Owner has nominated Bharia Marine Services as their agent in Pakistan.— Ali Haider Zaidi (@AliHZaidiPTI) July 24, 2021
The federal minister ended his tweet and wrote, “This is @ImranKhanPTI‘s Govt. I have indicated from day one that we will not allow anyone to take advantage of our ports. After collecting indicators & data available to us, I have formed an inquiry committee to ascertain the facts & fix responsibility on this incident.”
Delta variant now accounts for 100% of cases in Karachi
He also shared a notification by the Ministry of Maritime affairs for the formation of a fact-finding committee to investigate the incident.
It may be recalled that a ship, loaded with containers, came ashore due to high waves and a weak engine, and got stuck at Karachi’s Sea view five days ago.
