Students’ Demands Will be Heeded, Claims Senator Irfan Siddiqui #Baaghi

Representatives of students protesting for examinations met with Chairman Senate of Standing Committee on Education and Vocational Training Senator, Irfan Siddiqui, today at his office and put forth their demands.

According to the details, Chairman Committee has heard and assured the students that their demands will be thoroughly considered and that the concerned Ministry will be informed. The demands will be looked upon sympathetically, he also reassured. Students are a valuable asset to our future and them not being heard, being forced to protest on the streets, is unfortunate and must stop. The issue of examinations is causing severe stress for many of them.

Senator Irfan Siddiqui assured the students that they would inform the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training in writing for necessary action on their demands.

Earlier, Senator Irfan Siddiqui, expressed concern that the Federal Ministry has opened educational institutions in Islamabad from July 1, despite the Committee’s directions stating otherwise.

It may be recalled that the Standing Committee, in its last meeting, had directed the ministry officials to close educational institutions in the capital from July 1 to August 1 due to extreme heat, severe load shedding and difficulties faced by parents, upon the decision of the Punjab Government.

The secretary education present at the meeting assured that the instructions would be followed, but they were ignored, and institutions have been open since July 1.

The letter written by the Secretary Committee to the Ministry on the direction of Irfan Siddiqui expressed concern that not only the instructions of the Committee were ignored, but the Ministry of Education did not even consider it necessary to inform the Committee of the reasons for which the decision was not followed.

Irfan Siddiqui said in a meeting that this move by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training amounts to an insult to the Committee’s decision. This has been taken with strict notice and the concerned authorities may be sued in the next meeting of the Standing Committee.

Earlier, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood stated that critics of exams occurring should consult their parties; if the exams didn’t take place, there will be a lot of damage.

It should be noted that educational institutions have opened after a long closure due to the coronavirus. This year the government has announced that no one will be promoted without examination, with the students saying that if they are taught online, the exam should also be conducted online. Protests have occurred in this regard, but online examinations have been rejected by the government.

On the other hand, each day exam cancelation is made to trend on Twitter but Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood shall dash all the hopes of students when he says that no one will pass without an exam this year.
