Sydney lockdown extended for another month amid surge in COVID cases
Lahore, 28th July: Australia has extended the lockdown in Sydney for another month amid rampant coronavirus cases.
According to details, millions of residents in Sydney will have to undergo another lockdown for at least a month after the coronavirus outbreak and low vaccination rates.
Authorities announced on Wednesday that the restrictions which were due to end on July 30 in Australia’s biggest city will remain in place till August 28.
New South Wales state premier Gladys Berejiklian said, “I appreciate personally what we’re asking people do for the next four weeks but it is because we want to keep our community safe and want to make sure we can bounce back as quickly as possible.”

Officials in Sydney reported 177 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours after the outbreak began in mid-June when a driver for an international flight crew contracted the virus.
Meanwhile, authorities have urged the citizens living in hotspots areas not to leave their neighborhoods, while those living alone can create a single bubble with another person.
It is pertinent to mention here that Australia has been appreciated for its early pandemic success after it closed its international borders to control the spread of the virus.

But now with a low vaccination rate among the population, the Delta variant has emerged sending the cities into lockdown.
According to reports, around 13 percent of Australians have been vaccinated so far with low supplies of Pfizer-BioNTech and skepticism about the AstraZeneca shots.
It is to be noted that in a population of 25 million, Australia has recorded more than 33,000 coronavirus cases and 921 deaths so far.
