Washington: US President Joe Biden has announced that the US military mission in Afghanistan will end on August 31.

In a statement, Biden said the US decision to end the long war at last was a correct one. The mission was completed when Osama bin Laden was killed and another generation of Americans will not be sent to fight in Afghanistan.

“The Taliban are not to be trusted, but the Afghan army will protect the Afghan government. Security and peace in Afghanistan can only come from a united government, but it is unlikely that that will be established in Afghanistan,” he said.

The US president said that the concerns of Afghan women and their futures are correct and as such, 2500 people from Afghanistan have been given special visas to move to the United States. Afghan leaders must work together for the future of the country, he stated.
