The Taliban on Wednesday destroyed an electricity pylon that brings power to Herat province, the office of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) in Herat said in a statement.

The incident happened in Kalat-e-Ghazi village in Ghoryan district on Wednesday night. The Taliban destroyed a pylon that imports electricity from Iran to Herat, the report said.

50 percent of Herat’s people don’t have electricity, according to the statement.

“When there is no longer a Taliban threat in the area and the security forces are deployed, the engineers will go to the area to re-connect the electricity,” the statement said.

The local officials said that the Taliban has previously destroyed these major electricity pylons.
