Taliban spokesperson Suhail Shaheen urges peaceful power transition

Aug 16, 2021: With the group now in control of Kabul, the Afghan Taliban spokesman Sohail Shaheen has issued a message saying that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has once again ordered its Mujahideen that no one should enter anyone’s house without permission, protecting everyone’s life, property and honor.

On the other hand, the Taliban have appointed Mullah Shirin as the governor of Kabul. Mullah Shirin is a close associate of Mullah Omar and has served as the head of the Taliban’s military commission and Mullah Omar’s bodyguard.

In a message, Mullah Shirin Akhund, the Taliban’s nominee for governor of Kabul, said, “I assure the citizens of Kabul of the safety of their lives and property. Be content, be calm and peaceful. The Taliban have won after many sacrifices, may Allah accept them”

Maulvi Faqir Mohammad Bajauri, a former deputy emir of the TTP and former emir of Bajaur Agency, was released from prison in Afghanistan along with his associates. Talks have been going on between Pakistan and the Afghan government even before the extradition of Maulvi Faqir Mohammad to Pakistan. In return, the Afghan government sought the extradition of Afghan Taliban commanders imprisoned in Pakistan, but both were unsuccessful.

It is to be noted that the Taliban reached Kabul yesterday after which Afghan President Ashraf Ghani fled the country. The Taliban is in control of Kabul and other important government buildings have also been taken over by the Afghan Taliban who are  patrolling the streets and instructing people to cooperate with each other.

Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, while congratulating on the victory of Kabul, said that the entire Muslim nation of Afghanistan, especially the citizens of Kabul, are to be congratulated on the victory.
