Many a time we have heard stories of people either being suspended in a cable car or the cable car crashing down on its own. This is so calamitous. Mostly the simpletons who may find no other possible means of a reliable communication network are forced or may be forced to resort to the same devices, in doing so they fall victim to this makeshift. The program in other words is an utterly unreliable means for transporting people across ravines or in treacherous terrains. Unfortunately in these remote areas, there are certain human dwellings that are scant. Probably the focus of our political elite somehow remains the city areas where the bigger projects can be showcased to win the hearts of the poor superficially for vote-getting.

The recent episode of school boys who set off on this very dangerous journey is a story of their daily lives. Probably again in one of the remote areas of KPK. The schoolboys find it convenient to travel by this rickety means is not just insane but foolhardy too.

Just imagine the plight of the poor parents who would have been frozen with fear at the sight of their loved ones with bated breaths.
Thanks to local zip line runners and our army who came to their rescue on time and saved their lives after the long 14 hours of harrowing and grueling experience both by the help and the ones who suffered the trauma of being shut up in that suspended car when the cable ropes snapped and it kept suspended in the air.

Let us precisely be more cautious about these people who live at the mercy of the most humble circumstances. In the most dire conditions, they are compromised to do the unthinkable. In Pakistan, only the poor become the target of neglect and negligence at the hands of the very who are the masters of their respective domains. Every now and then we hear about train collisions or bogies derailing. Who is to blame for this flawed system of rail tracks? When it rains jaywalkers are the potential target making their way into either open drain storm water channels or uncovered manholes when the deluge of rain floods the cities.

I am in Turkey with my two sons and my significant other. We have toured almost every city that literally exists here. I went by road to Bodrum and other tourist destinations like Marmaiz, which is not very far from Bodrum. Bodrum is funky, and mecca of tourists that throng the area from the west. It’s known as Rivera of the East. The rich and the famous may show up with their swankiest yachts and personalized numbers. The super-rich like Bill Gates are some of the few who have made their way into Bodrum. There is a long list of others too. Bodrum is home to the Aegean Sea which may stretch up to maritime waters of Greece. The silhouette of Greek islands can be seen with the naked eye. One can ferry across, provided you have a Schengen visa.

We traveled by road in two cars. Coincidentally my daughter, a son-in-law, and the grandson were also there. Musa is a year and a half old. Naughty but really frisky and wears a constant grin on his brow. That’s what makes him different from his other age fellows. He is a very adorable soul. The light of our memorable journey literally. We set off at around 4 pm Istanbul. It was a sunny day with a perfect setting. An 800 km journey we traversed in 10 hours. The newly built three-lane roads on each of the two sides are a sight to watch. Indeed a marvel of jaw-dropping engineering feat with humungous bridges that catch your attention. The beholder is absolutely stunned at the sight of these Golden Gate-style bridges. All along the way on the way we stopped four times at different resting areas. These include resting areas with almost state-of-the-art, top-of-the-line restaurants. This makes one wonder, how long will it take for our engineers or for that matter our political elite to get to that point where commuters enjoy the traveling privilege without being harassed by any trauma or the ever-lurking fear in the back of their minds, for the roads being deplorable yet undulating with potholes on short distances?

The great infrastructural development is simply mind-boggling. One gazes in wonderment over the magnificence of these great structures. The young are inclined to venture out of Pakistan for greener pastures too.

I am parked with my children in a privately rented apartment in Beshiktas.

A sprawling street with beautifully arrayed dizzying shops also with vendors, shopkeepers, small cafes, and little eateries trying their areas of specialties like grilled kafta kebabs. It’s finger-licking tasty. One old man whom I saw before the grill is a treat to watch. I usually went around midnight. He would welcome me and my better half with open arms every time that we were there. My wife and I sat along the street on chairs with a small four-legged table. There is love in the air. One gets consumed by a general feeling of joy, happiness, and above all freedom. We would eat to our heart’s content with no fear of bloating. Because the oil is virtually nonexistent. Then would stroll back to the extreme opposite end from there.

Mugi Ice Parlour is another favorite spot of mine it’s being run by a young couple. A married pretty young lady in her thirties is a home ice cream maker with a variety of flavors to offer. My favorite is pistachio. It is a refreshingly nice green color with an authentic taste of pistachio. When I asked about its authentic taste she said she wouldn’t use the flavor, she rather used the very paste of pistachio that enriches the overall taste of that beautifully made delicious Ice cream. She is very enterprising, exceedingly jovial, and very affable, and her husband is a policeman back home. Can we imagine this kind of arrangement… not at all. Her husband the police officer usually comes to the parlour after his duty hours. Very sober, quiet looking decent man. I am told he works with Mr. Erdogan. So youngsters visit and enjoy the different variety of ice creams. My routine has been amazing. I would count my steps through an app on my phone and invariably I would have covered more than 15 thousand steps. A good day’s walk. The point I am making here is that can one do or go through the same regimen, I mean hop on and hop off from the metro or an air-conditioned bus. No certainly not. Come to think of our county. It will take us nearly 30 years if we gird up Our loins to be doing the right act.

My request to our custodians of law, the champions of democracy, and now the defenders of our borders is that without proper and clean development of infrastructural development, we will be nowhere near these countries. We will be despondent and there will be a large exodus from Pakistan soon. Pakistan is a big name still but we will lose its sanctity by not owning it’s ownership. During my visit to a dental doctor for a follow-up procedure I happened to exchange pleasantries with one of the Syrian doctors who assisted Dr Adeila my main Dr. She ranks as one of the top dental surgeons. Anyways that Syrian doctor on his own accord began talking about my country. As the conversation progressed he told me that do you belong to the same Pakistan where every Pakistani has pledged to guard the Holy Kaaba in any danger where invaders transgress the holy land. I froze there and then and was welled up to know how greatly these Muslims regard us and Pakistan in such a high degree of esteem.

But back home we don’t realize what we are losing and how quickly all that is slipping away from our hands like the quicksand.

Ours is a great country too but disappointingly the junta is not doing enough to get the country and its affairs back on the rails. We have made a ramshackle of our different working organizations. The political environment is toxic. The Constitution is in shambles. The economy is in a free fall, unemployment is rampant. Corruption is rife. We need to get our house back in order. The youth are looking for better opportunities abroad. That’s not on. What will the elderly parents do when all their loved ones make it to a foreign land for greener pastures? But rightly so the environment here in Turkey is way too conducive and the attractions are wide and large. I have no words to pay tribute to Turkey their engineers the employees of their corporations who have maintained their areas meticulously. The police which is hardly seen harassing the public. What a country. Long live Turkey and its great people. I wish ours could be like Turkey. Where we could stroll through the streets till late at night without the fear of being mugged or being carried off by force. I wish our country rid itself of all ills to make progress by leaps and bounds and in the right direction.
