Thirty thousand lives are in danger due to shortage of drugs
Tuesday, June 30th: According to a report by Baaghi TV, the coronavirus continues to spread in Pakistan. Many people in Sindh cannot afford basic equipment like oxygen cylinders, oximeters and thermal guns as the equipment has become very expensive. On the other hand, those who are able to buy medical supplies are not getting the required supplies. After the increase in prices, stockpiling of supplies has also started. Nasir Hussain, a pharmacist in Karachi, says it has become increasingly difficult to get supplies since the government introduced “smart lockdown” in many parts of the city. Only four “brands” of oxygen cylinders are available in the market, and they are both many times more expensive than their original selling price. Leading economist Dr Muhammad Zubair Khan says that artificial inflation is a common occurrence in Pakistan where the market can be manipulated. Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Secretary General Dr Qaiser Sajjad has claimed that medical equipment is being sold without the advice or recommendation of a doctor, which could lead to a shortage in the market.
