TikTok emerges as most downloaded app globally in 2021
It’s no secret that Meta (Facebook) founder Mark Zuckerberg sees the social media app TikTok as a threat as it is gaining popularity faster than their company’s applications.
In fact, the popularity of TikTok is growing so fast with each passing year that Facebook’s concern is understandable.
According to a report by apptopia, a mobile app analyst company, in 2021, TikTok led the chart of Christmas Day downloads ahead of WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger and Instagram in terms of downloads. TikTok has become the most downloaded app in 2021 and for the second year in a row it has won this award.

Overall, in 2021, TikTok is reportedly the world’s most downloaded app in the year with 656 million downloads, while Instagram came in second with 545 million downloads. Facebook came in third with 416 million downloads, WhatsApp fourth with 395 million, Telegram fifth with 329 million and Snapchat sixth with 327 million downloads.
According to the list, the video calling app Zoom was downloaded 300 million times and ranked 7th. Facebook’s messenger app was the 8th largest with 268 million, CapCut at the ninth spot with 255 million and Spotify with 103 million became the 10th largest app.
This is not the first time that TikTok has topped the list in 2021. Earlier in the day, Cloudflare, a cloud service company, released a list of the most visited websites of the year. According to Cloudflare, TikTok has snatched the title of the world’s most popular web address from Google in 2021.
