Sherry Rehman said her heart is deeply saddened to hear about the heinous act. The inhumane murder of an innocent woman, Maria, at the hands of her brother and father is a gross violation of basic human rights, our traditions, and the dignity of women.

The brutal video circulating on social media has left our society as a whole bowing its head in shame. The horrific nature of the incident should not be dismissed as a common occurrence. All the involved persons should be brought to justice by conducting a transparent investigation into this murder. Such acts of inhumane treatment and violence have no place in any civilized society, so those responsible should be brought to justice as soon as possible.

Our hearts go out to Maria and all affected women who are victims of such atrocities. Maria, an innocent 22-year-old, has been killed but now justice should be done to her, and her killers should be severely punished.

It should be noted that earlier, the investigation of the video of the gruesome murder of 22-year-old unmarried girl Maria in village 477 JB of Toba Tek Singh is ongoing. The father and son colluded to kill Maria and attempted to hide their crimes by burying the victim as a natural death. On the night of March 17 and 18, the father and son strangled Maria to death.

Maria Bibi was strangled to death by her brother Faisal. The deceased’s father Abdul Sattar, and brother Shehbaz are co-accused. The case of Maria’s murder was registered in the police complaint. Latest developments in the 22-year-old girl’s murder case, have revealed that the brother and father had been allegedly abusing the victim.

Lawyer Revealed Maria was Pregnant as a Result of Abuse

New developments have emerged regarding the Maria murder case. Advocate Kamran Zafar, lawyer for the deceased Maria’s brother Shehbaz, has refused to pursue the case. Kamran Zafar, the lawyer for Mariya’s brother Shehbaz and sister-in-law Sameera, held a press conference and announced that he would not pursue the case for Shehbaz and his wife Sameera. Lawyer Kamran Zafar said that during the investigation it has been proved that these accused are equal participants. Both the brother and the father used to sexually abuse Maria, due to which the victim became pregnant.

He added that he cannot advocate for such ‘beasts’ under any circumstances because his profession as a lawyer stands for supporting the oppressed while bringing the oppressed to justice. In this case, these four accused are equally guilty.

Physical Remand of Father and Brother Approved

The arrested accused father and son were produced in court after the two-day physical remand ended. Strict security arrangements were made on this occasion. The police requested the court to give further physical remand. The court approved another four-day physical remand of the accused.

In the case of Maria, who was killed after being raped by her father and brother, the federal body National Commission for Human Rights has announced to follow the case as a party itself. The delegation of the Human Rights Commission visited the house of the victim and got details from the relatives and people of the neighborhood. In a meeting with the DPO, the commission got information about the progress of the case and announced the follow-up of the case.
