UAE Approves Sinopharm Vaccine for Children Aged 3 to 17

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has approved the Chinese-made Sinopharm vaccine for use for children aged 3 to 17 years.

The announcement was made by the UAE government on the social networking site Twitter.

According to the UAE Ministry of Health, the decision was made after clinical trials and a detailed examination, but none of these details were released.

UAE authorities announced a trial in June of 900 children based on their immune response to the vaccine.

The country is one of first the countries in the world where most of the population has been vaccinated so far. As it stands, currently, Pfizer and Biotech vaccines are being administered to children between the ages of 12 and 15, and now, Sinopharm has joined the roster, aiming to vaccinate even younger children.

The Ministry of Health said on August 1 that so far 78.95 percent of the UAE population has been vaccinated.

It is to be noted that UAE is not the first country to approve of the use of a vaccine for children aged 3 to 17 years.

Earlier, in early June 2021, China approved the use of  Sinovac vaccines, made by Sinovac Biotech, for children aged 3 to 17 years.

On June 4, Yin Weidong, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sinovac Biotech, told Chinese media that the company had conducted a clinical study of children in early 2021, with the first and second phases of clinical trials having been completed.

He did not say how many children were involved in the trials but said the vaccine was as effective and safe in children as it was in adults. Furthermore, the vaccine could also be used in the same doses for children.
