UAE offers equal pays for both the genders

Dubai, 25th September: The government of the United Arab Emirates has issued a new law of offering the same pay scale to both men and women in the country.

According to reports from the Khaleej Times, a new law that will ensure equal pay for men and women in the private sector will come into effect in the UAE starting today.

President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan said that women will be paid as much as men for the same job according to the new decree introduced.

President further said that from today onwards the wages will be determined by market standards and not gender.

Article 32 of Federal Law No 08 of 1980 regarding the regulation of labour relations will be amended to the effect with the objective of reinforcing gender equality in terms of wages and salaries in the private sector.

On August 25, the efforts for implementation of a decree began by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation for achieving gender equality in terms of wages.

This step will strengthen the women empowerment in the workplace plus the country’s regional and international status for upholding gender equality.

Dr Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, said the decree is a “new positive step in the process of empowering women in the Emirates”.

He tweeted that the law will help build a modern state that reinforces equality and justice.

Women from public and private sectors in the Emirates have welcomed this step, saying that the UAE does not empower women but society by women. And for the UAE, it is no longer about gender, it is about equality and justice.

UAE Foreign Minister retweets Mubasher Lucman’s tweet

Pakistan’s renowned anchor and journalist Mubasher Lucman is among the first personalities to write a message on such a forward step by the Emirates.

Lucman wrote on his Twitter handle:

UAE government announces the same (equal) pay scales for both men and women. No more gender bias on the same jobs. A huge step is taken rather, truly a giant’s leap in today’s world.”

This law by the UAE government shall certainly boost the realisation of women’s full potential leading to the betterment of society for further growth and development of the economy.
