Lahore, 24th August: Ukraine retracted its earlier allegations saying that an evacuation plane of Ukraine carrying international passengers from Kabul, was hijacked and redirected towards Iran.

According to details, an evacuee Ukrainian plane got hijacked after it flew from Kabul on Sunday and was redirected towards Iran, a Ukrainian foreign deputy reported, but on Tuesday Ukraine has withdrawn from its statement.

According to reports, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yevhenii Yenin confirmed earlier their plane has been hijacked by unidentified men as soon as it took off from Kabul on August 22, to evacuate people after the Taliban takeover.

Yenin said that the Ukrainian plane carrying international passengers was hijacked halfway and rerouted towards Iran.

However, according to the latest report, Ukraine has now withdrawn from its allegation.

A spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Oleg Nikolenko has now denied media reports, saying, “There are no captured Ukrainian planes in Kabul or elsewhere. The information about the ‘captured plane’ that is being circulated by some media outlets is not true.”

On the contrary, the foreign ministry spokesman said that Yenin was speaking about the difficulties being faced by diplomats to evacuate them from Afghanistan after the Taliban took over the region.

Russian Tass news agency quoted Yenin and wrote, “Last Sunday, our plane was hijacked by other people. On Tuesday, the plane was practically stolen from us, it flew into Iran with an unidentified group of passengers onboard instead of airlifting Ukrainians. Our next three evacuation attempts were also not successful because our people could not get into the airport.”

Yevgeny Yenin had revealed that the hijackers were armed.

Meanwhile, there has been no confirmed news from the US or NATO officials who were hired to control the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul since last week.

Furthermore, the Ukrainian deputy minister has not reported any details about what happened to the plane or how they plan to seek it back, or how the Ukrainian citizens got back from Kabul.

However, the aviation authorities in Iran have rejected the allegations about the plane hijacking.

Iranian Civil Aviation spokesman Mohammad Hassan Zebakhsh has denied the Ukrainian deputy foreign minister’s statement, saying “Last night a Ukrainian plane landed in the Iranian city of Mashhad to refuel and it immediately left for Kyiv.
