US arrests five alleged Chinese agents
Five Chinese agents have been arrested in the United States (US) for allegedly targeting opponents of the Chinese government.
According to the French news agency, US officials have confirmed that five Chinese agents have been arrested on charges of targeting dissidents.
US Assistant Attorney General John Demmers said eight people had been charged with being part of China’s “Fox Hunt” illegal law enforcement operation. He said China calls Operation Fox Hunt an international anti-corruption campaign in which Chinese expatriates accused of corruption are arrested, brought back to China and prosecuted.

Demmers added that the anti-corruption campaign has targeted mostly those who are opponents and critics of China’s ruling Communist Party and President Xi Jinping. He said that in any case, China’s operation was against the rule of law and international law.
Demmers said five Chinese agents have been arrested in the United States on the same charges, while three others are currently in China. According to Damers, the men have been charged in the United States with illegally working as agents for China.
