The United States has stopped Turkey from supplying 30 locally-made gunship helicopters to Pakistan.
According to Bloomberg News, Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin told reporters on Monday that, “the United States has stopped selling Turkish helicopters to Pakistan. As a result, Islamabad will buy them from China.”
The ATACT 129 Augusta A129 is a dual engine, tandem set, multi-role, attack helicopter built on the Mangusta platform and is equipped with American engines. The United States is seeking export clearance for the LHTE engine. Ibrahim Kalin added that the ban could do more harm to US interests.
Turkey and Pakistan signed a 1.5 billion agreement in July 2018 for a Turkish-made helicopter gunship. But the Pentagon refused to issue an engine export license to the Turkish company and returned the supply date.
The Turkish official briefed reporters on the implications of US sanctions on Turkey, which prompted Ankara to decide to buy S-400 missiles from Russia.
