US journalist from AP fired for supporting Palestine
Lahore, 25th May: A US news agency fired a female journalist for speaking out on behalf of the Palestinians on social media.
Emily Wilder, 22, a journalist from the Associated Press (AP), is a graduate of Stanford University. The agency said Emily was fired for violating their social media policy.
The female journalist said that the posts on which this action has been taken are from the time when she was studying, those posts were in favor of Palestine and against Israel.
Emily Wilder shared her statement on her Twitter handle after getting fired from the news agency:

However, she still does not regret these posts.
Glenn Kessler, Editor of the Washington Post, tweeted on his Twitter account on May 21 that ‘how quickly a young reporter’s career can be blown away by a Twitter mob that got angered over some college tweets.’
Amazing how quickly a talented young reporter's career can be snuffed out by a Twitter mob that decided to feign outrage over some college tweets. And if @vv1lder somehow violated @AP's social-media rules, the solution is to offer guidance, not termination, to a new reporter. pic.twitter.com/PuGAwN0Aot

It was only after three weeks that Emily Wilder got fired from her job from the prestigious company.
On the other hand, the spokesperson of the AP said that irresponsible behavior on social media puts not only the said employee but also the other employees with him at risk.
Therefore the organization has formulated a strict social media policy on which practicing is a must for everyone working in the organization.
Some journalists have criticized the agency for this move and said that the new journalist should have been given guidance in this regard and not been shunted out.
