Video conference between PML-N President, Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif and the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Dr Christian Turner.

According to reports of Baaghi TV, Consultation on social sector development and various development programs were discussed. Political Counselor Iona Thomas was also present at the video conference.

PML-N leader, Shahbaz Sharif appreciated the UK’s financial and technical support for education, health and other social welfare programs in Pakistan, especially in the Punjab province. “DFID provided valuable assistance to the people”: Shahbaz Sharif.

The relationship between the United Kingdom and Pakistan is based on historical and mutual cooperation and respect, he added. According to reports of Baaghi TV, the opposition leader continued to add that the UK has cooperated for democracy, people’s rights and development and betterment in Pakistan and that such relations are important at the bilateral as well as regional and global levels.

DFID and the Punjab government have completed projects for the welfare of the people in a very transparent manner during his tenure, he added.

Shahbaz Sharif continued to state that the current opposition is the most responsible opposition in the history of Pakistan and that the present opposition “is playing its role in a very constructive manner, holding the government accountable for the promises made to the people”.

“Good performance of the government, prosperity and social welfare of the people should be the first responsibility and priority of the government”: Shahbaz Sharif.

Economic challenges are very worrying, opposition will continue to fulfill its constitutional responsibility to make the voice of the people heard at every forum, continued Shahbaz Sharif. Moreover, Shahbaz Sharif and Dr. Christian Turner also discussed local government, Corona, global economic and regional situation and FATF issues.

Pakistan successfully defeated the monster of terrorism under governance of the PML-N, claimed Shahbaz Sharif, who added that they “solved the problem of energy shortage, launched historic development and prosperity projects”, respectively.

According to reports, he added that this is the time to move forward with cooperation, not confrontation. Meanwhile, the British High Commissioner Dr. Christian Turner, praised Sharif’s performance as Punjab Chief Minister.

It is to be noted, that DFID and British assistance projects were successfully completed in a transparent and efficient schedule according to the British High Commissioner. It was stated that “Despite all the challenges currently facing, including the Corona epidemic, the UK is committed to various development programs in Pakistan under DFID”.

The High Commissioner went on to say that Sharif has shown great diligence, and active performance as the Chief Minister, and that projects for the “common goals of development, education, health and public welfare are a manifestation of mutual partnership between UK and Pakistan”.

In addition to this, it was stated that Pakistan and the UK will strive for common goals of mutual trust, co-operation and development, according to the British High Commissioner, who expressed wishes for the good health of the opposition leader. Shahbaz Sharif reportedly thanked the British High Commissioner at the end of the video conference.
