Since April 17th the news media is abuzz about the controversy surrounding Najeeb Haroon’s resignation from National Assembly being a founder member of the ruling PTI.

It is very rare in political annals in the world that ruling party stalwarts would resign from the ruling government assembly on ideological grounds.

Here is the inspirational story of a patriotic Pakistani who grew out of the middle class with strong moral and ethical values to lay the foundation of a financially strong and one of the largest construction company of the country.

The following is the excerpt on his background and grooming to emerge as a game changing party in the politics of the country as its’ 8 member founding team other than Imran Khan.

He joined the party as its president of Karachi chapter at a time when Pakistan was ruled by family cliques and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) strong hold and hegemony in the city.

Aged 64, he is a blessed and strong patriotic Pakistani who believes in the rule of law and deliverance of the country politics from the clutches of self serving politicians who are amassing wealth and power at the cost of its citizens.

He is among one of the very few politicians whose success story is very inspirational.

It is important to note that:

  • He is the highest tax payer parliamentarian from PTI by paying Rs.137 million in year 2017 Rs. 140.03 million in 2018.
  • He was born into a respectable middle class Urdu speaking family living on Jahangir road, Karachi where “strong moral values “ and a “clean character” were ingrained from his childhood.
  • His father retired from Government Service while Najeeb Haroon was 14 years old being the second amongst 4 children
  • His first foray and initiation in the politics was when as a young student of FSc he contested his first Student Union elections in DJ Science Degree College and became Joint Secretary of the union
  • At tender age of 18 he led a campaign as Chairman of First Divisioners Pre-Engineering Students Action Committee to successfully introduce 100 seats in the NED Engineering University for Karachi in the afternoon shift
  • He contested and won the election at NED University and became the first elected president of NED University student union
  • While studying Civil Engineering in NED University at the age of 18, he held a full time job working in the night shift in PIA to finance his education and contribute towards his family support.
  • During his time at PIA he actively participated in the Labor union to protect the rights of its employees.
  • After graduation he worked in reputable Engineering firms in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, where he gained wide exposure and valuable experience. He saved money from his jobs and took a sabbatical to self finance his Masters’ degree in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University with the perfect GPA of 4.0.

With the spirit to serve Pakistan he burned his boats and returned home at the age of 31 and established his firm “Principal Builders” with a meager capital in hand. This company is now among the Top Leading construction firms in the country and only serves in the private sector. He has purposely never under taken public sector projects and enjoys 33 years history of zero litigation and arbitration. His personal values drive the company ethics where quality and timely delivery are the core criteria.

In April 1996 when Imran khan announced formation of PTI he immediately flew to Lahore and joined the party. He was nominated as the first president of PTI Karachi, and a member of the first founding eight person Central Executive Committee of PTI under the leadership of Imran Khan.

Following his footsteps his three sons after obtaining Masters Degrees in Engineering and Business from prestigious universities of USA and UK also returned to Pakistan and joined his business and are carrying on the work with the same zeal, diligence and ethical values.

Breaking News: PTI’s member of Parliament resigns

He is the senior most PTI member elected in the Parliament. In his commitment to serve, he is actively representing his constituency and working for the betterment of the city from where he is elected and the country.

He has foregone and not drawing any benefits or perks from the Exchequer either as salary, parliamentary lodges, allowances, official vehicle and any airline tickets local or foreign. He has also foregone benefits as the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Housing and Works.

He has led parliamentary delegation to Malaysia and has paid for his own travel expenses and has also traveled to Turkey with parliamentary delegation meeting all his costs from his pocket.

It is to be noted that he is the ONLY surviving Founder Member of the First Central Executive Committee of PTI along with Imran Khan.
