Meera ji keeps her calm as Iffat Umer relentlessly bullies her

TV shows in Pakistan over the years have earned themselves a reputation of being seriously annoying and degrading.

The quality of the media content being aside, they simply cross ethical lines without any fear and that says a lot about the power media has in our country.

Recently, Meera ji was invited by Iffat Umer on her show. The conversation seemed to be going pretty fine until Iffat decided to bombard Meera with uncomfortable questions.

Umar proceeds to ask Meera about her true age and Meera whilst trying to answer was aggressively curtailed. Iffat did not back down but kept pestering the actress about her real age.

Saqib Malik sitting next to Meera gave the perfect answer to her question. He says:

‘You are as young as you feel, why is number important, she (Meera) is forever young.’

But then again, Umar did not backdown and insistently asked Meera to let her know her age or else she has to eat a green chilli.

Meera still put up a brave front, answering her questions with confidence, never once losing her smile or her temper.

Do you think it is right to present a show like this where the host is insistent upon degrading individuals with intentions loud and clear? Do these hosts or the team behind the show pause to think what affect this would have on the guest’s mentality? Will this insult or consistent bashing, live trolling, have a positive impact on the person’s mental health? This is outright bullying, in its meanest form. Even if its disguised as humor, what we saw in the show was pathetic.

Iffat seemingly felt no shame in continuously singling out Meera over her age just for some ratings.

Meera is a well-known celebrity in Pakistan and many people still love and adore her. Surely, she did not deserve such treatment.
