Zoha Rahman and Muslim Representation in the West

**LOS ANGELES (8th Nov, 2019): Marvel’s blockbuster, Spider-Man: Far from Home, to introduce hijabi character.**

According to reports of Baaghi TV, pictures and videos from the filming site of the latest installment of Spider-Man surfaced, back in January of 2019 leading people to speculate the identity of the hijabi woman on set. Law graduate of British-Pakistani heritage, Zoha Rahman is playing the role of Peter Parker’s female Muslim friend in the most recent installment.

In an interview, Rahman has revealed the reasons behind playing the character of a hijabi woman. She said:

I wanted to create a character that a lot of other hijabi girls would be able to identify with. It meant so much to me to represent so many girls that I know personally and that I love.

While talking about her deep passion for acting, she further added:

We grow up watching blockbuster movies and if we don’t see ourselves on those screens, then we don’t really exist.

Reportedly, Zoha Rahman is the first hijabi actor who will appear in Marvel’s latest blockbuster, Spider-Man: Far from Home. Her appearance might even change the perspective of hijab in the west.
