4 Pakistani Artists Make it to the Top 50 Asian Celebrities of 2020

Lahore, 13th December: Four notable artists from Pakistan have made it to the list of 50 most popular artists in Asia in 2020, which has been released by the British newspaper ‘Eastern Eye’.

Baaghi TV: According to the details, the list includes 50 artists from Asia who have influenced people with their good works in the last 12 months and made a positive impact on the society through social media. 

The four artists from Pakistan included in the list are Sarwat Gilani, Bilal Abbas Khan, Ali Zafar and Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy.

Sarwat Gilani:

Actress Sarwat Gilani is ranked 21st in the list. Sarwat Gilani has made her mark as a feminist icon. She has been lauded for her performance in the web series ‘Churails’, which was telecasted on India’s ZEE5 digital platform.

“With the electrifying drama, she opened the door for a new era of TV content in Pakistan box and consolidated her position as a feminist icon,” the description read.

Bilal Abbas Khan:

TV actor Bilal Abbas Khan’s name ranked at number 28 in the list. He was praised for his work in the Pakistani drama ‘Pyar ka Sadqay’ and ‘Ek Jhooti Love Story’ on India’s ZEE5 web channel.

“With some more high-profile projects on the way, Khan looks like the future of Pakistani film and television.”

Ali Zafar:

Singer and actor Ali Zafar is ranked 39th in the list compiled by ‘Eastern Eye’. Zafar was praised for singing the anthem for Pakistani cricket league this year.

According to the publication, “he promoted new talent with his record label. More meaningful was the immense humanitarian work the singer did for those who were suffering during COVID-19. His actions inspired others and consolidated his star credentials.”

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy:

Oscar-winning director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy ranked 49th on the list. Sharmeen Obaid played a key role in raising awareness about social issues in the year 2020. She brought out new talent and gained international attention through her work. 

According to the UK publication, Chinoy is the only director in the list who has been given the honour of being on it because of the way she utilises her platform.

The publication wrote, “She used her platform to raise awareness about social issues, nurture new talent and gain international attention for her work. A big highlight was a stunning animated short movie ‘Sitara: Let Girls Dream’, which premiered earlier this year. The Oscar winner was also signed up to direct superhero series, Ms Marvel.

Iman Vellani:

Among others was Iman Vellani, the upcoming ‘Ms Marvel’ on number 44. “Born in Canada to immigrant parents from Pakistan, the 18-year-old generated global headlines after being cast as Kamala Khan in hotly anticipated series Ms Marvel,” noted the publication.

The game-changing casting of her as a Muslim teenage superhero was met with an incredible response globally and has already made her the one to watch in 2021.

Meanwhile, other big names like Anushka Sharma, Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Zayn Malik also graced the list.
