450 stations  being upgraded to change traditional police culture: IGP

Lahore: Inspector General of Police Punjab Inam Ghani said that the police station is the basic unit of working which is my first priority to create the best investigation centers for crime eradication as well as community service centers for law abiding citizens so that the overall identity of the police may become stable and public friendly.

He further said that in the financial year 2021-22, about 450 police stations in the province are being upgraded to Special Initiative Police Stations (SIPS) with the aim of changing the traditional police station culture and providing citizens with fast track service delivery in the style of modern policing. He further said that a committee headed by Additional IG Operations comprising of DIG R&D, DIG IAB, DIG IT and DIG Crimes for ensuring close monitoring and audit of ongoing development work for construction of new SIPS and AIG Finance while ensuring that all development budget received by Punjab Police in the current financial year is spent on provision and improvement of resources in police stations. He emphasized that in Special Initiative Police Stations (SIPS) Only A and B category police officers and officials should be posted while reports of ongoing work on upgrading in SIPS should be submitted to me every 15 days. He further said that compliance with the SOPs issued for the construction of Special Initiative Police Stations should be ensured in all cases while the committee formed under the chairmanship of Additional IG should ensure the upgradation of police stations and provision of necessary equipment and facilities without any delay. He issued these instructions while giving instructions to the officers during a high level meeting held at the Central Police Office here today. During the meeting, the current situation of the police stations of the province, available facilities and the problems faced were discussed in detail.
Giving instructions, the IG Punjab said that the current financial year is being celebrated as the “Year of Police Stations”, therefore, compliance with the SOPs issued for the construction of Special Initiative Police Stations in all the districts of the province should be ensured in all cases. He further said that a policeman should be posted as a guide in the Special Initiative Police Stations to provide guidance and all possible assistance to the visiting citizens. He further said that all RPOs and DPOs should pay special attention to police station construction and development projects in their districts and provide modern facilities as well as effective briefing to the staff assigned in police stations regarding public dealing so that they may perform their duties in a better way and become the hands and arms of the oppressed citizens. He further said that the image of police in the public can be improved only by bringing politeness in public service delivery and police attitudes and no effort should be spared for protection and safety of creature of Allah Almighty.
Additional IG Operations Sahibzada Shehzad Sultan, DIG R&D Shahid Javed, DIG Crimes / Investigation Sharaq Kamal Siddiqui, DIG IT Waqas Nazir, AIG Inquiries, Ibadat Nisar, AIG Operations, Syed Zeeshan Raza, AIG Procurement, Khalid Hamdani along with other officers were also present at this occasion.
