Addressing the Islamabad Policy Research Institute, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi stated that India took an authoritarian, Hitler-like, step when they illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that through this action, India has increased the pace of the slow-moving tsunami of state terrorism. When they disregarded the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, the world’s so-called largest democracy used every tactic of oppression and brutality, and this is the same institution where India aspires to get a permanent seat, he said.

For two years, the Kashmiri people have been suffering in the world’s largest concentration camp, he said, furthermore, they are blocked from contacting others and are not even able to access normal or emergency medical facilities. This kind of treatment isn’t given to even the worst criminals, the Foreign Minister said, according to reports.

Kashmiris are not being given equal concessions even in the Corona era, he said, an era in which humanity has developed unparalleled sympathy for one another. The only thing that has happened is the worsening of conditions there.

He said that young Kashmiris are disappearing without a trace and new rules, and forced laws are being imposed so that the population of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir is changed illegally.

“As it may be accepted, but in the light of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s clear vision, we stand with full determination,” he said. “In the light of the Prime Minister’s instructions, I was honoured to focus on the efforts of the Ministry of External Affairs to make the international community aware of this situation and to create a sense of awareness. I am happy to point out that our efforts have not gone in vain.”

The UN Security Council has discussed the Kashmir conflict thrice since August 2019 and everyone is well aware of the atrocities being committed against Kashmiris. World leaders, MPs, the media, humanists, civil society, everyone knows very well how the Kashmiris are being treated under the Indian glare.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the Government of Pakistan is fully committed to continuing to support Kashmiris morally, politically, and diplomatically, so blaming their sincerity is equivalent to sin. The international community should pressure India to treat Kashmiris as human beings, he said.

India should nullify its unilateral actions and end all tactics of state repression and terrorism, he iterated, stating that India should respect the Security Council resolutions and allow Kashmiris to exercise their right to vote. This will extract the dagger that India has embedded in the chest of bilateral relations and regional peace, which threatens world peace and security, he said.

“Pakistan wants to divert its attention from geopolitics to geoeconomics,” he said. “We want peace with India but it will not be at the cost of sacrificing Kashmiris. We hope that together we can weaken their extremist ideology by resolving this long-standing problem fairly in a real peaceful manner, keeping in mind that you will not find the Imran Khan government lagging behind.”
